Melissa Sharplin Art

Originally from Christchurch, Melissa is now well and truly a Wānaka local and key part of the regional artist community.
First introduced to painting in high school, Melissa fell in love with the work of James Rosenquist and other iconic Pop Artists. Rosenquist was a prominent figure of the pop art scene in the 1960’s, creating mysterious and bold compositions utilising culled and found imagery from his background as a billboard painter.
Like the pop artists commercial influence, Melissa is heavily inspired by her background in fashion and pop-culture. Fusing Pop Art and Photo Realism together Sharplin is recognised for her ‘deluxe’ largescale portrait works. Her Aotearoa / New Zealand range of giclee prints focus on the nostalgia of found imagery and recognition of day-to-day objects from life in New Zealand.
“I have an insatiable hunger for all things beautiful. My work reflects what I see in everyday living and I believe in sharing the love and deliciousness in what is truly magic”
