C Breeze Jewellery
Born and bred in Hokitika on the West Coast of the South Island, New Zealand, Charlotte was first introduced to jewellery making through stone carving in a small studio. Westland being renowned for its pounamu deposits has a rich carving history.
In 2007 Charlotte graduated from Otago Polytechnic School of Art in Dunedin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts having majored in jewellery and metal-smithing. It was during her final year that she chose to explore the hunting sub-culture.
“I love the idea of making and designing jewellery for people not typically associated with body adornment / fashion scene and one of my first exhibitions was in outdoor sports store in Dunedin. I combined materials that reminded me of [hunting] past times; bullet shells, antlers and stone from the area’s hunters frequent. Although bullet shells can be perceived as aggressive, I chose to ground [my jewellery] in this subculture as the environment in which I live is a hunting culture and a way of life for many… plus the idea of recycling appeals.”
