Bundilla Glass
Eiko Kawaguchi is a Waikuku based glass artist. Born and raised in Japan, it was during a holiday in Australia that she saw and fell in love with a perfume bottle, exquisitely hand made in glass. A case of love-at-first-sight, that moment proved pivotal and was the catalyst for her career in glass.
Returning to Japan, Eiko trained part-time in glass blowing at the Tokyo Glass Art Institute. In 1999 she spent a year in Australia learning and meeting with many creative exponents working in glass before moving to New Zealand.
Eiko’s career encompasses glass bead jewellery making and hand-blown objects and home-wares. Passionate about creating functional pieces, she has explored the use of heat resistant glass (borosilicate glass) to create a wide range of jewellery and blown vessels. Inspired by beauty in all things, Eiko draws inspiration from the landscape, food, music or a beautiful performance and her works sits in the realm of both art object and home-ware.
All vases are dishwasher safe, though hand-washing is advised.
